Flinders Ranges - SA

26th - 30th November 2012

Heading north to the Flinders Ranges was our next goal and kind of the first step towards outback and rugged country.
Quorn used to be the starting point of the old Ghan railway and therefore the town used to be big and glamourous. In the old days there were not less then 19 watering holes in Quorn, as today there are only 4 left. (which are still too many for the small population).
Great drives around this area which is considered the lower Flinders Ranges. Great lookout, aboriginal paintings in caves, old sheep farm ruins and woolsheds.
Have to mention that the Quorn Caravan park is very nice and the owners commited. A must stop for every traveller.
Further north into the Ranges, we stopped two days in Wilpena Pound which is a  great area for hiking and driving around the Ranges. Both days were extremely hot and therefore we started our hikes around 6am, worthwhile getting up as no one scared the wildlife and the view with the morning sun was just great.
